The Currency of Love

1 min read

This week I am participating in a Twitter chat called , in this chat they talk about uncommon problems that educators face. I think it is very important for me to look at the hashtag and see what sorts of things were discussed the week before. I found this amazing article about a problem many of us as educators may face in our classrooms or work environments. They discussed how some students may feel after the result of the election and how some may feel hated or discriminated against. The article discusses how some teachers may feel like this is a time of crisis. I have included a link to the piece. I feel that it resonated with how I have been feeling.

Debunking the Digital Natives Myth

1 min read

This week I participated in a Twitter Chat and I was connected with people who post really interesting articles about digital literacy and blogging. The whole Twitter chat was based around blogging and of the people involved in the Twitter chat linked to a very interesting article. It talks about the assumptions that are made about people born in the digital era. The myth is the fact that we all understand technology and are experts at it. I have included a link to the article below.

1 min read

The last few weeks what Ashton Kutcher is doing to fight sex trafficking has been all over the internet. I have always enjoyed him as an actor and decided to research this a little bit more. Thorn is the company that he works with to fight sex trafficking and its very relevant to our Digital Literacy class because Thorn uses technology to fght sex trafficking.  They are comprised of 20 technology companies that use their money and time to combat sex trafficking. It is truly a group effort of tech companies coming together to create amazing change. Please check out their website Here. You will see that many companies you have heard of such as Google, Microsoft, Twitter, and Snapchat are working together with Thorn. This is very relevant to our class as well beause we are using these social media sites.

Rurality and Access to Higher Education

1 min read

I am very interested in reading and focusing on access to higher education. I came across a really neat blog on Wordpress that is written by someone who has experienced rurality as a challenge to entering higher education. I have never read about this being an issue for someone trying to be in higher education. I have included a link below the blog post and do plan on researching this topic more in the coming days.

MIT Grads Helping us Find the Best Wine

1 min read

This week we have been reading all about collaboration and how successful collaboration can really increase our learning online. I was on my Twitter and found an awesome link to a website created by MIT grads where you take a test and they reveal to you the kinds of wines that you would enjoy. You do have to be a member to fully partcipate. To me this was an ideal example of successful collaboration. It took wine experts and the MIT grads to create this website , and to be honest when I initially think of MIT grads I do not immediatly think of wine. Check it out at the link below.

Trump and his Executive Order

1 min read

First of all let me say that I do not support Trump , at all. I have actually been unfriending people left and right on social media because I cannot stand to hear them support this man. One of my friends posted the below article this weekend and I read it out of curiosity. I never know what to believe anymore and try to stay up to date on all this political madness. This article made me question if how do I know what I am reading is fact? Is this a valuable article? How do we stop people from getting information like this if it is incorrect? Either way I support our refugees and immigrants no matter what. The fact that I read so many different sides to one story on the internet has me very confused.

Twitter's Effects on College Students

1 min read

I have never enjoyed twitter and have in the past tried it but did not enjoy it. More recently and ecspecially since taking this class I have started to see that Twitter can possibly be useful and to be honest with the presidential election I have enjoyed being able to look on Twitter for information. I found an article that discusses how Twitter impacts college students. I have included the link to this artice below. It was very interesting to learn that the students that used Twitter were much more engaged in what they were learning that the students that did not use Twitter. Based on this article Twitter proves to be a valuable resourse to engage students and foster learning.
